The goal of a Backgammon match is to shift your checkers around the Backgammon board and get those pieces off the board faster than your opposing player who works harder to achieve the same buthowever they move in the opposing direction. Winning a round of Backgammon requires both tactics and good luck. How far you can shift your chips is left to the numbers from tossing the dice, and how you move your chips are decided on by your overall playing techniques. Players use differing strategies in the different parts of a game depending on your positions and opponent’s.

The Running Game Plan

The aim of the Running Game strategy is to lure all your chips into your home board and get them off as quickly as you can. This technique concentrates on the pace of moving your chips with absolutely no efforts to hit or stop your competitor’s pieces. The best time to employ this strategy is when you believe you can move your own checkers quicker than your opposing player does: when 1) you have a fewer chips on the game board; 2) all your checkers have moved beyond your competitor’s checkers; or 3) your opposing player doesn’t use the hitting or blocking plan.

The Blocking Game Tactic

The primary aim of the blocking strategy, by its title, is to block the competitor’s checkers, temporarily, not worrying about shifting your pieces quickly. As soon as you have created the blockage for your opponent’s movement with a few chips, you can move your other checkers rapidly from the board. The player should also have a good plan when to back off and shift the pieces that you employed for the blockade. The game becomes interesting when the opponent uses the same blocking tactic.
